Threats & Challenges

  1. Hi Kasey, The Coal Ash looks devastating. Erosion of riverbanks is also a huge challenge in my watershed. Did you come across any efforts to curb the erosion in your research?

  2. The coal ash pictures look incredible! I can't believe something like that can even be built next to a body of water. I wonder what their strategies will be with the impending climate change and increase in floods from extreme weather will be. Coal ash ponds really aren't something you hear about, less even than hog waste/agricultural ponds. I didn't even know what they were until I read a book recently that followed a story of bringing coal companies, whose business destroyed entire towns, to justice and making them pay for their actions to the local communities. Now I have a visual of what it's like! --Brittany G.

  3. It is crazy to be that the effects of coal ash can be felt so far from the actual mines. I curious to know if your watershed faces a major threat to water quality impairment from acid mine drainage.
